Build your child's strength, balance,
coordination, and CONFIDENCE!
How old does my child need to be to begin training at Franz Karate? Our amazing program for kids focuses on ages 6 to 12. We have the privilege of teaching many children in this age group and truly enjoy helping them develop life-enhancing character traits through Traditional Okinawan Karate. How often are classes and how many does my child need to attend? We have two locations, and classes are held at each dojo three days a week. Our minimum training requirement is that your child attends at least two days per week to ensure they don’t fall behind. Each class lasts approximately 50 minutes. The key to your child’s success is consistency—scheduling classes regularly will help them build confidence and achieve goals as they study Karate. Will Karate Training make my child violent? Absolutely not. In fact, training teaches children to control their emotions and channel their energy in a positive way. This is a common misconception about martial arts training for youth. The professional instruction in our dojo emphasizes using skills only when necessary for self-defense. A key component of good, authentic, traditional Karate is building character and teaching students how to control their actions. In short, your child will learn when it is appropriate to use their skills—and when it is not acceptable. My child isn't athletic nor sport oriented at all. Can they still do Karate? Absolutely—and they SHOULD! In our dojo, you'll find students of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. Each one progresses at their own pace, guided by our professionally certified Sensei. We understand that every child is unique, and Karate training was designed to help everyone, regardless of fitness level or ability. No one sits on the bench in our dojo! Everyone participates and is encouraged to grow by our amazing Sensei. Do children actually hit one another? How safe is the training? Karate training in a good dojo is a contact environment, but it is heavily monitored to ensure safety. We carefully control the amount of contact during training to keep it as safe as possible while still allowing students to develop effective self-defense skills. A key focus in our dojo is respect for others—attempting to harm a fellow student is never permitted at any time during training. In fact, Karate training typically results in fewer injuries than many other activities/sports children participate in. Our dojo provides a safe and supportive environment, and full-contact striking is never allowed. Children learn how to control, focus, and properly execute their techniques at all times. How will Karate training help my child at home? at school? The answer is a resounding yes! Our students consistently show significant improvements in attention, focus, and even grades at school. Karate training also helps children develop better listening skills and learn how to respect authority figures. The key is ensuring your child attends their two classes each week and stays informed about events and happenings at the dojo. When the dojo, Sensei, and parents work together, the results are truly amazing. However, Karate is not an overnight miracle. Typically, it takes about 1 to 2 years of training to build lifelong skills that will help your child grow into a productive, successful individual both inside and outside of the dojo.
